Education concerns, baby formula shortages and rising inflation highlighted discussion at Thursday’s Town Hall meeting at the W.G. Smith Building in New Castle.
The event, featuring Democrat and Libertarian candidates, included Democrats Nan Polk, a retired teacher running for the District 54 seat being vacated by the retiring Tom Saunders; U.S. Rep. candidate Cinde Wirth; and Indiana Senate challenger Ron Itnyre; along with Libertarian and U.S. Senate hopeful James Sceniak. The lively discussion was attended by approximately 40 people.
The Greenwood resident, seeking to upset incumbent Republican Todd Young, said inflation is the number one issue now affecting Hoosiers.
“It’s been talked about at every single town hall we’ve had,” Sceniak said. “Todd Young’s been running on it, but his record would indicate he’s part of the problem: The intrusion into our daily lives from the Republican party and their spending habits don’t represent Hoosiers.”
Thursday’s event, moderated by Beverly Matthews, was stop number four of 16 scheduled throughout the state. Previous events had been held in Fort Wayne Greenfield and Columbus.
